These bursaries are an effort by Rev. Dr. F. O Odoko to give support to deserving academics to help and encourage them in their pursuit of academic excellence.
There are three bursaries in the names of his now late father Odio Thomas Odoko, his mother Mrs Felicia O Odoko and his late wife Pastor Mrs E Odoko. These bursaries are going to be a yearly stipend given to the most deserving students for academic excellence.
Pastor Mrs Queen E. Odoko was born in 1965. During her early years, she attended Local Government Primary School in Ajaye, Ekiti State, and later went to Aramoko-Ekiti State for her secondary education. She then attended Saint Joseph Teacher College in Ozoro, Delta State for teacher training and obtained a B.A in English from the University of Abuja. On May 28th, 1988, she got married to Rev. Festus O. Odoko and remained happily married for over 33 years until the time of her passing.
Queen Odoko was a remarkable home and church builder, an ordained minister of God for over 20 years and an astute businesswoman who ran a bookstore, fabric store, and property development business. She was also an active preacher and evangelist who leveraged physical and digital platforms to propagate the Gospel. Queen was the Chairperson of Isoko North PFN Women wing, an executive of the Delta State PFN, and a member of the Nigerian pilgrim contingent that visited Israel in 2019. Until her passing, she was a senior pastor at Perpetual Light Christian Church, which she founded alongside her husband, Reverend Festus Odoko. Queen Odoko was blessed with wonderful children.
Madam Felicia Otaighodono Odoko was born in 1927, at a time when the education of girls was neglected. She did not have the opportunity to receive a formal education, but she was extremely intelligent. She possessed a remarkable ability to perform calculations even in the days before the invention of the calculator. As a trader, she could quickly calculate the amount a customer needed to pay, often before the calculator could be used.
Despite her lack of formal education, she valued education and did everything within her power to ensure that her children received a good education. She was also a philanthropist who used her resources to help the less privileged, including both relatives and neighbours.
Born in 1910, Chief Thomas Otaighobe Odoko of Odio was unable to complete his primary education due to financial constraints. Despite his own missed opportunities, Chief Odoko was determined to ensure that all of his children, regardless of gender, had access to education. As a result, all of his female children received at least a secondary school education, a progressive and forward-thinking decision for his time.
Throughout his life, Chief Odoko was passionate about leadership and governance, serving as a kingmaker and the Otota of Ozoro Kingdom. He actively encouraged his children and associates to pursue political careers, believing in the importance of representation and engagement in government.
